Yakima County Issues Burn Restrictions, Closes Friday Walk-Ins

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Yakima County Fire Marshal has issued an annual burn restriction for unincorporated Yakima County areas, effective June 1 through August 31, 2026. Residential outdoor burning of non-recreational materials, including yard waste and ditch bank burning, is prohibited. Agricultural burning may be permitted with a YRCAA permit. Violations carry fines of $250 to $1,000.

The Yakima County Public Services department will permanently close its walk-in counter on Fridays, following a successful three-month pilot. The change, approved by the Board of County Commissioners, allows staff to focus on plan reviews and permit processing. Customer surveys showed 94% support for the closure, with 81% reporting improved service times.

The burn restriction applies to unincorporated areas only, not within city limits. Yakima City residents should check with their local fire department for any additional rules. Public Services will remain open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with staff working Fridays for inspections and permit work.
