Yakima County Fire Marshal Doug Werts announced a burn restriction for unincorporated areas of Yakima County effective June 1 through August 31, 2026. The restriction prohibits residential outdoor burning of non-recreational materials, including yard waste and ditch bank burning. Agricultural burning requires a permit from the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency. The restriction is based on Yakima County Ordinance 4-2026. Violations carry fines of $250 for the first offense, $500 for the second, and $1,000 for the third. Recreational fires in approved devices and LPG-fueled appliances are permitted. The Yakima County Fire Marshal's office provided contact information for questions. The restriction applies only to unincorporated areas of Yakima County. Yakima City residents are not affected by this restriction as it does not apply to incorporated city areas. The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency handles agricultural burning permits and can be contacted at 509-834-5050 or online at yakimacleanair.org.
