The Yakima City Council approved a proposal to build a 37,190-square-foot pickleball facility at 4501 Sorenson Road. The project includes 15 courts, a community room, and a raised viewing platform in the GC zoning district. The application was submitted by SOZO Sports of Central WA, represented by Leanne Liddicoat.
The facility, part of a Class 2 environmental review, will replace an existing structure in the same location. The project is expected to enhance recreational opportunities for Yakima residents. The city's development department will now review the final plans before construction begins.
The approval follows a public hearing where residents could comment. The project is scheduled to move forward after the city council's vote, with construction expected to begin within six months.
