State fire assistance was mobilized to support Yakima County firefighters containing the Humann Fire, which began near Selah on June 28 at 4:47 p.m. Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization at 8:30 p.m. on June 28 at the request of Assistant Fire Chief Jacob Stuker of Yakima County Fire District 2. The fire, estimated at 150 acres and growing, is burning in sage, grass, and homes, threatening public safety and private property. Level 3 evacuations are in effect for residents in the area.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is activated to Level 2 to coordinate state assistance. Mobilization specialists ordered two strike teams to aid containment. State Fire Marshal’s Office personnel are en route and working remotely to coordinate resource dispatch. The fire cause is under investigation. The Humann Fire is the only fire in the Yakima County area mentioned in the public records.
