Yakima County has issued three separate road alerts this week affecting drivers in and around the Yakima area, with closures tied to bridge repair and ongoing roundabout construction.
Barkes Road is closed between Fort Road and Branch Road near the 3900 block, effective immediately, to allow crews to complete a bridge repair project. No reopening date was provided. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
Separately, the intersection of Lateral A Road and US-97 closed again on March 31 for an estimated eight days as the Washington State Department of Transportation resumes roundabout construction at that location. Drivers needing to reach the Road Warrior Travel Center can use a local detour.
Yakima County Public Services also announced a three-month pilot program closing its offices to walk-in customers on Fridays, beginning this spring.
