County Permit Office Closed to Walk-Ins on Fridays

Yakima County Public Services is no longer accepting walk-in customers on Fridays, starting April 10, 2026. The closure runs through the end of June as part of a three-month pilot program approved unanimously by the Yakima County Board of Commissioners on March 26.

The office, located on the 4th floor of the County Courthouse, handles building permits, plan reviews, and related administrative services. County officials say closing to the public on Fridays will give staff uninterrupted time to process permits and complete plan reviews β€” tasks that officials say have been slowed by staffing shortages.

Residents who need to make utility payments on Fridays can still pay online through Civic Pay Online or use one of three secure drop boxes: at the courthouse entrance, the drive-through box on the north side of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, or outside the 4th floor main entrance.

For questions, residents can contact Public Information Officer Monica Beltran or Building Official Marivel Garcia at (509) 574-2300. The county plans to evaluate the pilot before deciding whether to make the Friday closure permanent.
