Yakima County Public Services is no longer accepting walk-in customers on Fridays, starting April 10, 2026. The change applies to the Public Services and County Roads offices on the 4th floor of the County Courthouse and runs through the end of June as a three-month pilot program.
The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the pilot during a work session on March 26. County officials say the Friday closures will give staff uninterrupted time for plan reviews, permit processing, and administrative tasks. The department cited staffing shortages as a key driver behind the change.
Residents who need to pay utility bills can do so online through Civic Pay Online or use one of three drop box locations: at the courthouse entrance, the drive-through box on the north side of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, or outside the 4th floor main entrance. For questions, contact Public Information Officer Monica Beltran or Building Official Marivel Garcia at (509) 574-2300.
The county will evaluate the pilot's results before deciding whether to continue the Friday closure policy beyond June.
